Raising the Banner on Local Events

If you’ve ever tried to plant a temporary sign in the ground, you know the drill. You hunt for a patch of dirt, wrestle with metal T-posts, and hope the coastal wind doesn’t take the whole thing down by Tuesday. It’s a lot of work for local organizers who just want to share what’s happening in our community. That’s exactly why we decided it was time for a pivot.

We originally envisioned event banners on the downtown light poles as part of our community wayfinding plan (the same initiative that brought you our “Welcome to Tillamook” and pedestrian signs). However, hanging banners from downtown poles comes with its fair share of structural challenges. Instead of giving up on the idea, we adapted: How could we support community events in a more uniform, cohesive, and sturdy way?

The answer is our new permanent banner displays. Supported and funded by the Tillamook Coast Visitors Association as part of the county-wide wayfinding program, these displays give local events a beautiful, reliable place to shine without the hassle of falling T-posts.

One of the coolest parts of this project is that it is locally fabricated. We didn’t outsource this to a massive sign corporation. Instead, it’s a true showcase of local collaboration:

  • Fabrication: Beautifully crafted by William Wallace Welding.
  • Materials & Prep: Sourced at Rosenberg’s, with Lucas Hamerl handling the sealant to keep them looking sharp.
  • Installation: Expertly anchored into the ground by North Coast Lawn.
  • Digital Setup: Make it James built the online booking form.

To keep things uniform and looking great, the display accommodates one standard size banner: 4×4 feet.

Organizations can reserve a spot for a three-week window. The best part? You get to choose the timeframe that makes the most sense for your goals. If you’re hosting an event that has ticket sales you probably want your banner up a few weeks before the big day to drive ticket sales, rather than during the event itself. The booking form will let you pick dates showing you what’s available.

The portal is opening up very soon. Check out tillamookchamber.org/banners for more information.
