A Sweet Start to Summer

Looking for the perfect family-friendly way to kick off your summer break? Mark your calendars! This year, the Tillamook Chamber of Commerce is moving its Treats & Sweets event to Saturday, June 20th, creating a festive celebration to launch the summer season.

From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, downtown Tillamook will transform into a playground for all ages. This free self-guided tour is designed to get families exploring our vibrant local business community while enjoying some sweet perks along the way.

Your adventure begins at the Chamber Headquarters. Here is where you’ll fuel up and grab your supplies:

  • The Hot Chocolate Bar: Courtesy of Dutch Bros Tillamook, fuel up with a warm cocoa creation.
  • Treasure Maps: These will guide you to all the participating businesses waiting to welcome you.
  • Kids Bucks: Every child will receive “Kids Bucks” that can be spent just like cash at participating downtown shops, it’s a great way to let the little ones practice their shopping skills!

Before you head off to explore downtown, don’t forget to strike a pose in our Family Photo Booth! You’ll want a keepsake of the memories! Young artists can enter the Coloring Contest to show off their creative flair, and grab snacks to keep their energy up. As you follow your map, participating businesses will be ready with special treats and warm smiles. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover new favorite shops while the kids enjoy a “sweet” stroll through town.

The fun doesn’t stop at the storefronts. Second Street will be buzzing with excitement, featuring Emergency Vehicles for the kids to explore. We know how much the kids love seeing the bright lights and meeting our local first responders, who will be on hand to show off their gear and chat with the community.

Dust Off Your Passports: 2027 Chamber Trip Reveal

We’ve been keeping a secret, and it’s finally time to share. The Tillamook Chamber of Commerce is pulling back the curtain on our next group adventure. (Drum roll, please…) We’re heading to the heart of South America for an immersive journey through Santiago, Patagonia, and Buenos Aires!

Stars, Stripes, and Dairy Delights

With June just a couple of months away, the countdown has officially begun for one of Tillamook County’s most cherished traditions: the June Dairy Parade. As schools let out the energy builds; dance studios are perfecting their routines for the parade route, while local businesses and organizations gather supplies to decorate their floats, attendees finalize their plans for the big day, including prep for all the fun giveaways. (Cheese or jerky sticks, anyone?!)

Our 69th anniversary on Saturday, June 27, holds a very special significance this year. Under the theme “Stars, Stripes, and Dairy Delights,” we are honoring America’s upcoming 250th birthday by blending national pride with the deep agricultural roots of our region. This parade serves as a heartfelt tribute to the hardworking people who make Tillamook County such an incredible place to call home.

The parade is far more than just a simple procession through town; it is a living history book that tells the story of our home. While the modern version we celebrate today officially began in 1957, the roots of this tradition reach back even further. According to archives from the Headlight Herald, Tillamook’s very first dairy parade took place in the 1920s—more than a decade before National Dairy Month was even established.

That 1957 “relaunch” of the parade featured 28 entries and was famously delayed by rain. Those early years were full of unique local flair, featuring cow-milking contests between the county’s mayors and tug-of-war matches between local service clubs. This rich history reminds us that while the floats have grown larger and the milking contests have faded away, the heart of the celebration has remained unchanged for generations.

A huge part of what keeps this tradition moving forward each year is our partnership with the Tillamook County Creamery Association. As our primary sponsor, the Creamery ensures the parade remains a high-energy spectacle for everyone to enjoy. You can usually catch them delighting the crowds with their famous “Baby Loaf” buses, appearances by local dairy royalty, and those fan-favorite cheese samples handed out along the route. Their continued support is vital in keeping this community celebration rolling year after year.

While the parade itself lasts less than a couple of hours on a Saturday morning, the effort required to bring it to life is months in the making. Organizing an event of this scale involves meticulous planning and careful coordination. Much of this heavy lifting happens behind the scenes at the Chamber, where our Office Manager, Tammy, has the process down to a science. From navigating city permits and working with local law enforcement to ensuring a safe route for everyone involved, her dedication is the engine that keeps this tradition moving.

If you would like to be a part of this historic celebration, now is the time to get involved. The Tillamook Area Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting applications for those who wish to enter a float, group, or vehicle in the procession. You can submit your entry form directly on the Chamber’s website here to reserve your spot in the lineup. Additionally, a key part of our tradition is honoring a leader who has made a significant impact on our community. Another essential part of our parade tradition is the selection of the Grand Marshal, and we need your help to choose this year’s honoree. This is your chance to recognize someone who truly embodies the spirit of Tillamook, especially those in the farming and agriculture industry who deserve to be celebrated for their contributions.

All of this hard work pays off when you see the incredible turnout on parade day. The 69th Annual June Dairy Parade will officially kick off at 11:00 AM in the heart of downtown. Whether you are a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, this year’s patriotic theme promises a morning filled with nostalgic charm. Our new Lunch and Learns build on this by giving local leaders the tools they need to stay sharp. Access Member Spotlight: Meet John Northrop, JAndy’s New General Manager

JAndy Oyster Co. is excited to introduce someone many of you may already recognize. John Northrop has stepped into the role of General Manager at JAndy Oyster Co., and his journey to Tillamook is one of those stories that reminds us why this community is so special. For this month’s Access Member Spotlight, we connected with John to learn more about what brought him here, what keeps him here, and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.

John grew up in El Paso, Texas, and spent more than 15 years serving as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. His career took him all over the country and overseas, but it was his final station in Astoria that made a lasting impression. He and his wife fell in love with the Oregon coast, and even after a move to New Mexico, the pull of this area never really went away.

When he was offered the chance to open a Starbucks in Tillamook, they knew they were ready for the next adventure. Even though that chapter didn’t unfold the way they expected, John says the path forward couldn’t have been clearer. “God opened doors that allowed us to continue building our life here,” he shared and they’re so glad they stayed.

John and his wife have now been here just over three years, and like so many who move to Tillamook, the thing that stands out most to them is the people. They didn’t know a single person when they arrived, but the welcome they received made Tillamook feel like home almost immediately.

“This community is like a big family,” John said. “We felt included from the start.” Even during the uncertainty of Starbucks’ closure, they knew they weren’t ready to leave. Tillamook had become home and they plan to stay.

John’s background is one of those rare combinations of service, leadership, and hands-on business experience. The Coast Guard taught him lessons in leadership sometimes the hard way, and Starbucks helped him soften that military style into a people-first approach.

He also picked up the day-to-day pieces of managing a busy retail and restaurant environment, inventory, staffing, sales, and everything that keeps a business running smoothly. No matter the role, one thing stayed the same, John loves serving people, whether they’re customers or teammates.

That focus aligns perfectly with the culture Todd and Tamra Perman have built at JAndy Oyster Co.. “The key to JAndy’s success is a strong team that cares about our customers and about each other,” John said. “I’m excited to be part of that.”

For John, the best part of joining JAndy is getting the chance to stay connected to the community he loves. When Starbucks closed, the hardest part wasn’t the business transition it was losing the relationships built over years of daily conversations and shared moments.

Now, in his role at JAndy, those familiar faces are showing up again. “I’ve already reconnected with so many people,” he said. “And I’m meeting new regulars every day.”

He’s also enjoying getting to know the team behind the scenes. “Everyone here has such interesting life stories,” John said. “I’m looking forward to learning more about them and sharing those stories with the community.

Citizen of the Year: Kaylan Sisco. A true community leader, Kaylan revitalized the local YMCA, transforming it into a welcoming hub that fosters inclusivity and rebuilds trust. His dedication to repurposing the former bowling alley into the Pastega Activity Center has provided a safe and engaging space for kids, addressing a vital need with creativity and compassion.

Small Business Community Award Winner: Tillamook Tire! A third-generation family business, Tillamook Tire has been a trusted part of our community for decades, delivering expert tire services with hustle and heart. Whether it’s a quick tire change, budget-friendly used tires, or mobile service that meets customers where they are, their team always goes the extra mile.

Large Business of the Year: The Mook at Alderbrook! The Mook at Alderbrook has quickly become an integral part of our community, thanks to the support of locals and the dedication of its new ownership partners. By enhancing the existing course, they’ve transformed it into a beautiful and exciting destination for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

Program of the Year Community Award Winner: The Tillamook High School Drag Racing Club! This club isn’t just about speed; it’s about responsibility, teamwork, and leadership. Through hands-on experience, students learn to maintain their race car, secure sponsorships from local businesses, and tackle real-world challenges, all while keeping their grades up.

Development Project of the Year: The Pastega Activity Center! The PAC is more than just a space; it’s a testament to vision, generosity, and community spirit. Thanks to Kaylan Sisco, former CEO of the YMCA, a dedicated Board of Directors, and a generous legacy gift from the Mario and Alma Pastega Family Foundation, the PAC has become a vital hub for all ages in Tillamook.

Sip, Shop, and Socialize

When we wrote about the growing success of our monthly Sip + Shop event back in the summer of 2024, we only had a hint of its true significance. Now in 2025, the picture is much clearer. As our Membership and Community Partnerships Manager, Meg, recently highlighted in her article, “Driving Downtown Vibrancy Through New Connection,” experiences are becoming the new downtown anchor, a trend we are seeing right here in our community. These experiential events are quickly becoming the latest hot commodity! Our Sip + Shop, held on the second Friday of each month from 5:00 to 7:00 pm (excluding August, when we’re at the fair!), brings together locals and coastal visitors for a fun evening of shopping, sipping, and socializing in downtown Tillamook.

Just last month, we saw an amazing turnout for Sip + Shop! Many people braved the dark, cold evening to join the fun, and we were excited to see lots of new faces. This event’s success is a direct result of our wonderful participating businesses, and we sincerely appreciate every one of them for staying open late to create this experience! The journey begins at the Chamber HQ, where attendees receive a complimentary, reusable wine glass and their first sip. They are also provided with a map of participating stops offering additional samples. We are now pleased to offer non-alcoholic options, allowing everyone to participate! Additionally, regulars who bring back their glasses the following month are entered into a prize drawing, offering a fun incentive to reuse their glass.

We’ve had regulars like Madelines, West Elliot, and ReCurrent join us each month, and now Pioneer Museum regularly participates, offering FREE admission during Sip + Shop! We’re also grateful for the participation of businesses like Jeannie’s Salon, Denise Prothe with Guild Mortgage, the new addition Sweet Begonias, and, in the past, Rob Trost, who have stayed open late to add wonderful stops to the route.

As Sip + Shop continues to expand, it’s wonderful to see how it brings people from around the community together while supporting the local economy. Sip + Shop not only brings people together but also encourages locals and visitors to explore and appreciate the unique offerings of Tillamook’s small businesses. It’s a great opportunity to meet the shop owners, make connections with others and enjoy the evening out.

All winners will be formally recognized and celebrated for their achievements at the Annual Chamber Awards Banquet, a signature event that brings the community together.

These awards are a direct opportunity for YOU to acknowledge those who have truly gone above and beyond this past year. Who has made a difference in your life? This past month, I had the opportunity to attend two incredible professional development experiences – the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce Conference and the Oregon Main Street Conference – on behalf of the Tillamook Chamber. Both events connected me with chamber professionals and community leaders from across the state, offering fresh perspectives on how towns similar in size to Tillamook approach business engagement, economic development, and community growth.

Throughout both conferences, I participated in sessions that focused on collaborative policymaking, strengthening local economies, and creative ways to engage businesses through events and storytelling. One session that particularly stood out to me was titled “Experiences Are the New Downtown Anchor.” It explored how communities across Oregon are partnering with local businesses to design events and activities that prioritize local participation and build a sense of place.

I found this especially exciting because we’re already seeing the benefits of that approach through our growing Sip + Shop event, held the second Friday of each month from 5–7 p.m. Events like this not only drive foot traffic downtown but also give businesses an opportunity to showcase their personality and connect directly with locals. The session also offered inspiration on how to creatively utilize vacant or underused spaces for community gatherings. This concept directly influenced how we’re activating Henson Plaza this year for our Downtown Trick or Treat event on Thursday, October 31, from 3–5 p.m. Chamber members without a downtown storefront will have the opportunity to hand out candy and engage with families right in the heart of downtown.

These conferences reminded me that community development is about connection—between businesses, residents, and shared spaces. I returned home with new tools, creative strategies, and a deeper understanding of how to strengthen partnerships throughout Tillamook. I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundation we’ve already laid and to bring new ideas forward that celebrate collaboration, local pride, and the unique spirit of our community. I am so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to expand on my skills and professional development. Halloween Fun in Tillamook!

Have you picked out your perfect Halloween costume yet?

Our community is buzzing with excitement for the annual Downtown Trick or Treat event and we can’t wait to celebrate with you this year. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of trick-or-treating on Friday, October 31st, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It’s the perfect opportunity to stroll through downtown, show off your creative costumes, and gather goodies in a safe and spirited environment with your kids.

We’re excited to offer spaces at Henson Plaza for non-storefront members to set up and participate! However, please note: You must reserve your space to participate, as capacity is extremely limited. Secure an area for your table (and pop up tent, if you have one) by calling the Chamber Help Desk at 503-842-7525.

But the Halloween fun doesn’t stop there! At a recent Mornings on Main gathering, we heard about even more exciting community events. The Tillamook YMCA will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. This annual event offers another fantastic option for families to safely gather treats from decorated car trunks.

And for those looking for even more festive activities, our friends at Tillamook Bay Community College will be holding their annual Halloween event from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. This will be held inside (just in case it decides to rain … crossing our fingers it doesn’t!). Amazing opportunities, all designed to ensure a safe and memorable Halloween for our community!

These events truly highlight the spirit of community that makes Tillamook so special. Halloween is a time for imagination, a little bit of spooky fun, and ensuring everyone can celebrate safely is important. By offering structured,  events like Downtown Trick or Treat, Trunk or Treat, and the TBCC Halloween event, we create environments where children can enjoy collecting candy and showing off their costumes, while parents have peace of mind. It’s a collective effort from our local businesses, organizations, and volunteers that makes these cherished traditions possible. So gather your little monsters, princesses, and superheroes, and get ready for a fantastic, safe, and community-filled Halloween in Tillamook! We’ll see you there!

Sneak Peek: Helping Visitors Find Their Way

At the Tillamook Chamber, one of our key strategic priorities is Business Growth. That goal is broad and often looks different depending on the project or season. Sometimes it means ongoing programs that support local businesses, and other times it’s unique initiatives that bring long-term value to our community. Earlier this spring, we launched one of those special projects in partnership with the Tillamook Coast Visitors Association: installing pedestrian wayfinding signs in downtown Tillamook.

The Chamber was actually the first to partner with TCVA and Partners in Design back in 2017. Their vision was to create a coordinated signage system that welcomes and guides visitors throughout the county. We developed a multi-phase plan – with the first phase focused on gateway or “Welcome” signs—those attractive markers placed at community entrances. Here in Tillamook, those gateway signs were completed in 2019 and have since been installed in other parts of the county as well.

Now we’re moving into phase two: pedestrian wayfinding. This system of signs and maps is designed to help people confidently navigate a city on foot. As residents, we often take our landmarks for granted. We drive past the kayak launch, the veterans memorial, or even another brewery without giving them a second thought. But for a visitor, discovering these places often requires a simple sign pointing the way. For example, if someone is enjoying an afternoon at Pelican Brewery & Taproom, wouldn’t it be helpful to direct them just a block away to another brewery, or to show them that a paddle on the river is just steps away?

Every time I encounter wayfinding signs in other cities, I feel instantly welcome. Their presence says: we care that you’re here, and we want you to explore what makes this place special. That feeling matters. Visitors who feel oriented and encouraged to explore are more likely to stay longer, shop, dine, and return. And the reality is, many of our local businesses rely on that support.

While these signs are designed with visitors in mind, I am also proud of what they represent for us as residents. They are a visible investment of lodging tax dollars, supporting not only tourism but also building community pride. They remind us that Tillamook is worth showing off.

This fall, keep an eye out for a dozen new high-quality wayfinding signs in downtown. They will serve our visitors, support our businesses, and remind us all that Tillamook is a community worth exploring.

The Farmers Market Is Still Buzzing

Fall into four more weeks of fresh produce, unique gifts, and family fun!

Many people think the farmers market season is over after Labor Day, but we’re here to tell you that’s not the case! We have four Saturday’s left, and the market is still bursting with fresh, vibrant produce. Now is the perfect time to stock up on all your favorites and enjoy the final days of the season.

More than just a place to shop, the farmers market is a true community hub. It’s where neighbors connect, kids play, and the air is filled with the sounds of live music. We enjoy featuring amazing talent each week, from local bands like N.E. Daynow and Mercury Coast to other incredible artists who bring our market to life. The vibrant energy is a celebration of local life and culture that you simply have to experience for yourself.

The bounty here goes far beyond fresh produce. Our vendors—a mix of old favorites and exciting newcomers—have filled the market with unique handcrafted goods and delicious foods. You can discover a wide range of unique items, from comforting freeze-dried soup mix and locally grown herbs to beautifully scented artisanal soaps. The market is also a great place to find treasures for your home, like intricate photography, whimsical handmade wind chimes, and vibrant tie-dye apparel. This year, we’ve been thrilled to welcome several new vendors who have quickly become market favorites. Sinfully Sweet Treats has brought a range of delightful baked goods, while Hall Family Farm helps gardeners get a head start on next year’s plans with their high-quality soil enhancer. And for a healthy and fresh bite, Apple Sprout Co. is selling their delicious variety of microgreens.

While you’re here, swing by the Farmers Market HQ to grab one of our new farmers market bags! Thanks to our sponsors, the Tillamook County Creamery Association and Fibre Federal Credit Union, these nice, sturdy bags are perfect for carrying all your new treasures and showing your market pride. Working Together for Downtown Parking Solutions

We all want to see downtown Tillamook thrive. Our local shops, restaurants, and businesses are the heart of our community, and they deserve our support. But as our town continues to grow, we face a familiar challenge: finding a place to park. Whether you’re a resident running errands or a visitor hoping to experience all that Tillamook has to offer, limited parking can make the experience frustrating. And when parking is a barrier, our businesses feel the impact too.

Recently, after presenting a number of observations and proposed changes regarding downtown parking, the City invited us to the table to discuss parking concerns, and we were ready and excited to collaborate. A small group representing the City, Chamber, business owners, and downtown property owners shared one simple goal: make downtown parking more accessible for customers and visitors while also providing reliable, convenient options for the employers, employees, and residents who keep downtown moving.

Current City code does not permit employers, employees, or residents to park in downtown so they often have to park a few blocks away from their place of employment or housing. During a recent evaluation, more than 30 vehicles belonging to employers, employees, and residents were regularly parked on downtown streets. While it’s easy to see how this creates challenges for customers, it’s important to note that downtown workers and residents haven’t always had clear or convenient alternatives. We believe that once better accommodations are made for businesses and downtown residents that the parking for residents and visitors will be more readily available.

The meeting between the City and Chamber was a breath of fresh air – collaborative and thoughtful – and the City was highly responsive to a number of our proposed solutions. First, the City is committed to updating the parking code to allow downtown business owners and employees to use the main City lots on First and Second Streets. This practice has already been in place informally on Second Street since the pandemic, when the City paused enforcement in order to support businesses. Making it official will create a better awareness for downtown businesses on where they can park and open up more on-street spaces for residents and visitors.

In addition, the City is working on further details of a paid permit program for the Old Library Lot at the corner of Second and Ivy that we proposed. This plan would create up to 26 designated spaces for downtown employees, residents, or business vehicles like delivery vans. As more housing comes to our downtown, demand for parking will only continue to grow. A reserved permit option ensures that those who need consistent, long-term parking can access it, while freeing up nearby street parking for shoppers and guests.

Ultimately, these efforts are about more than just parking spaces.  They’re about creating a welcoming, accessible downtown where businesses can succeed, and visitors and locals alike can enjoy their time. By working together, the Chamber and the City are taking meaningful steps to support our businesses, strengthen our local economy, and make downtown Tillamook an even better place to be.

The Value of Mornings on Main

From updates to community connections, Mornings on Main is your monthly snapshot of what’s happening in Tillamook County.

Do you ever see our monthly reminder for Mornings on Main and wonder what it’s all about? While the promise of fresh, hot coffee is a great reason to join us here at the Chamber HQ’s on the third Tuesday of each month, this gathering is so much more than a morning snack. It’s a chance to get a real-time, in-the-moment scoop on what’s happening in and around our county.

Mornings on Main is a very engaging way to connect and learn directly from fellow business owners, non-profits, and community leaders. We kick off at 8:00 a.m. and go around the room, giving each person one to two minutes to share any upcoming events, sales, or information. There are no formal speakers; the spotlight is on you! We usually try to wrap it up at 9:00 a.m. so you can buzz out of here to carry on with your day, or stay and network.

You’ll be amazed by the variety of information shared. One month, a local realtor might provide a quick update on the housing market, followed by what’s playing next at the Tillamook Coliseum and details about an upcoming fundraiser. The next month, you could hear about upcoming emergency preparedness drills, new classes at a local dance studio for all ages, or an inspiring story from a non-profit about their work with veterans. The topics are always different and reflect a true cross-section of Tillamook life, making every gathering unique.

The best part is watching new connections form. Someone might share a need for volunteers, and you’ll see another person’s face light up with a solution. The conversations over coffee after the round robin style often lead to new partnerships, friendships, and great collaborations. There’s something special about being face-to-face with others who share the same common goal- a thriving community. If you’re curious to see it for yourself, join us on the next third Tuesday. It’s an easy, low-pressure way to get connected and see what makes our community so special.

Second Main Street Grant to Revitalize Downtown Tillamook

I’m sure you’ve noticed the eye catching transformation happening on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Second Street, adjacent to the Henson Plaza as you make your way through downtown Tillamook. The historic National Bank Building has received a fantastic new facelift, thanks to the vision of local business owner and developer, Terry Philips. After a complete renovation, the building has a fresh new look. The clean white and gray paint job and new retail/ office space are just the beginning of some really exciting news for Downtown Tillamook.

Earlier this year, the Tillamook Chamber of Commerce applied for an Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant on behalf of Terry’s project. We were thrilled to learn that we secured a substantial $250,000 to help get this project going and address a critical need here in Tillamook.

So, what exactly does that mean for our community? This grant will be a huge help in transforming the upper floor of the National Bank Building into new apartments, including an ADA-accessible unit on the bottom level that will be easily accessible from Pacific Avenue. We all know how critical the need for housing is, and this project is a big step toward addressing that.

Some of you might remember that the Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant Program also helped another local business owner and developer, Lisa Greiner, owner of the Oregon Coast Dance Center. She was awarded $200,000 from the OMSRGP in 2019 to kick-start her downtown housing project. After a lengthy but rewarding renovation, the Jones-Knudson apartments above her dance studio were finished and fully occupied earlier this year. The Chamber celebrated with Lisa and those involved in the process during a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially commemorate the completion of this project on February 8th, 2025. This milestone’s success is a powerful example of how these grants can boost vitality in the downtown community.

The Chamber is honored to play a role in working with these motivated developers. We love helping them secure the funds needed to turn their passion and vision into a reality, making downtown Tillamook a more inviting and thriving place to live, work, and play. There’s nothing better than seeing a great idea become a reality while also meeting a real need in our community.

Ray Monroe Named Grand Marshal of 2025 June Dairy Parade

Ray Monroe, a lifelong Tillamook County resident and dedicated advocate for natural resources and the agricultural community, has been named the Grand Marshal of the 2025 June Dairy Parade. Ray’s deep roots in the county and extensive contributions to the local dairy industry and community make him a fitting choice for this honored role.

A Sandlake, Oregon native, Ray grew up immersed in the local fishing and farming communities, attending Beaver Grade School and graduating from Nestucca High School. He helped raise six children, the youngest of whom recently graduated from college.

Ray’s most significant professional contributions have been to the Tillamook County dairy industry. Since 1996, he has served with the Tillamook County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). In this role, he plays a crucial part in distributing Farm Bill funds to natural resource users across Tillamook County. He works hand-in-hand with dairy farmers, assisting them in developing and implementing comprehensive farm plans. Furthermore, Ray is instrumental in securing grant funding that empowers dairy farmers to protect, improve, and care for natural resources, ensuring their sustainability for future generations.

As an advocate for landowner rights, Ray firmly supports the right to farm while simultaneously guiding landowners in complying with crucial Federal, state, and local regulations. His balanced approach shows his commitment to both agricultural prosperity and environmental stewardship.

Ray’s commitment extends far beyond his professional life, encompassing a wide array of activities and community involvements. He is an active member of the Pacific City Dorymen’s Association, the Pacific Fishery Management Council, the ODFW Restoration and Enhancement Board, the Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association, and the Ocean Policy Advisory Committee. His dedication to local agriculture is evident through his involvement with the Oregon Salmon Commission, the Tillamook Working Lands and Waters Cooperative, and the Oregon Farm Bureau. Demonstrating his compassionate spirit, he has also volunteered with the Oregon and Tillamook food banks and has been a key participant in distributing Christmas baskets in the past.

When not tirelessly working for the community, Ray enjoys the simple pleasures of coastal life including dory fishing, clamming, crabbing, and gardening. These pursuits connect him deeply to the natural beauty and resources of Tillamook County.

With a commitment to quality, creativity, and affordability, Brittney Bakes has earned a reputation for going above and beyond for their customers. 

North Coast Pinball offers a unique, alcohol-free environment where people of all ages can enjoy fun, affordable entertainment. They foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, hosting monthly Teen Nights and LGBTQIA+ events in partnership with Manzanita Pride. Rendezvous Bar and Grill demonstrates resilience and dedication, overcoming immense challenges to support their staff and community. From navigating the hardships of the pandemic to enduring a devastating fire in 2022—they persevered, finding creative ways to keep their team employed. Nearly two years later, their celebrated reopening stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment and love for their staff and the Tillamook community. 

Tillamook County Library serves as a vital hub of education, connection, and opportunity in our community. Through its network of branches and the beloved Bookmobile, the library system offers a wide range of resources, including workshops, classes, and access to essential technology. Whether it’s helping residents with job searches, tax preparation, or simply providing a welcoming space for learning and exploration, the library continues to play an essential role in empowering our community. 

Tillamook Vision exhibits a strong commitment to the health and well-being of our community. With advanced equipment and a compassionate team, they provide expert care for a wide range of eye conditions, ensuring that every patient receives the attention they deserve. Their commitment goes beyond regular hours, offering on-call services and emergency care, even on weekends, to make sure residents always have access to the care they need. 

TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, goes beyond traditional financial services with a commitment to innovation, community connection, and member-focused solutions. Through initiatives like a virtual financial coach, a helpful chatbot, and specialized loan products, they’ve made financial education and resources more accessible. For over 20 years, TLC has proudly partnered with Shop with a Cop, demonstrating their dedication to supporting local families and building stronger community ties here in Tillamook County.

Nominees for 2025 for the Citizen of the Year:

Amanda Ferrat has made an extraordinary impact on Tillamook County, championing acceptance, inclusion, and community well-being. From leading the Suicide Prevention Coalition and organizing HOPE Fests to founding the EDJI Collaborative and serving on the Neah-Kah-Nie Inclusion Alliance, Amanda’s commitment to creating meaningful change doesn’t go unnoticed. Amanda’s dedication and compassion continue to inspire connection, understanding, and positive growth throughout the community. 

Brett Hurliman has a genuine passion for community involvement, dedicating countless hours to both public initiatives and quiet, behind-the-scenes acts of kindness. Whether supporting local families in need or contributing to numerous community groups, he consistently makes a difference. From directing ceremonies for various events to coordinating Rotary projects and stepping up whenever help is needed, Brett’s efforts leave a lasting impact on our community. 

Roberta Mosher is the driving force behind Nehalem Bay Community Services, an organization that provides vital social services to North Tillamook County. Roberta tirelessly works to rally support from the broader community, making programs like Munch-A-Lunch, Senior Lunches, and children services possible, ensuring that families and individuals in need receive not just assistance, but a sense of hope and dignity. Her unwavering dedication and compassion have had a profound and lasting impact on many. 

Kaylan Sisco has revitalized the local YMCA, turning it into a warm and welcoming community center that fosters inclusivity and rebuilds trust with the public. His dedication to transforming the former bowling alley into the Pastega Activity Center—a safe and engaging space for kids—demonstrates his commitment to addressing community needs with creativity and compassion. Kaylan’s innovative thinking continues to inspire positive change throughout the community. 

Nick Troxel’s dedication to keeping our town safe is evident in his tireless efforts to protect and serve our community. Beyond his commitment to public safety, he serves as a positive role model for local youth through his involvement in the Shop with a Cop program, building trust and creating meaningful connections. Nick’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication make him a true asset to our community. 

Chris Wilks is a dedicated advocate for our community, consistently stepping up to make a difference both through his business and personal efforts. From completing critical projects like building an outdoor ramp for a local veteran to serving on committees addressing housing challenges, Chris tackles tough conversations and works tirelessly to create positive change. His generosity, drive, and unwavering commitment to helping others are appreciated by those around him.

Kicking Off the Community Award Nominees – Part One!

The Tillamook Chamber Annual Banquet is just around the corner, and we’re thrilled to reveal this year’s exceptional Community Award nominees!  

These awards, a cherished tradition of our Annual Banquet and Auction in January, celebrate the individuals, businesses, and projects that make Tillamook extraordinary. With categories like Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Development Project of the Year, and Program of the Year, this year’s nominations once again highlight the incredible spirit of our community.

Nominees for 2025 Development Project of the Year:

Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers’ Tillamook Hope Center created 40 more opportunities to bring hope to those who need it most. Renovating the upstairs of the historic building to provide more bedding and living space, they seamlessly blended modern updates with the building’s historic charm. With expanded access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and trauma-informed care, the Hope Center continues to provide essential support, empowering individuals and families to build stable, sustainable lives.

Homelife Furniture underwent a transformation of its downtown location, bringing new life to the building and the surrounding area. Broken awnings have been removed, a fresh coat of welcoming paint has been applied, and professional signage now adds a polished touch. This revitalization not only enhances the store’s appearance but also contributes to a cleaner, more inviting downtown atmosphere, creating a more enjoyable experience for both locals and visitors.

Jones-Knudsen Apartments project, led by Lisa Griener, takes an innovative approach to addressing Tillamook County’s housing needs. Utilizing nearly all local contractors, Lisa has transformed a turn-of-the-century storage area into vibrant living spaces that meet federally designated affordability standards, ensuring attainable rents for local residents. As the first multi-use conversion in downtown Tillamook this project has exemplified a community-focused investment in housing solutions.

The Pastega Activity Center (PAC) was established through the vision of Kaylan Sisco, CEO of the Y, and a dedicated Board of Directors. With a generous legacy gift from the Mario and Alma Pastega Family Foundation, the YMCA has established a vital community space for all ages in Tillamook. Over the past year, the PAC has undergone revitalization, transforming the aging bowling alley into a safe and welcoming environment where youth can gather and engage in positive activities. Thanks to continued community support, the PAC remains an essential indoor recreational outlet.

The Three Capes Loop offers breathtaking views as travelers journey between Cape Meares and Oceanside. During this project, it created significant opportunities for local businesses. By enhancing the region’s natural beauty, the scenic route not only showcases the area’s charm but also supports the local economy. With its stunning vistas, the Three Capes Loop is a valuable asset to Tillamook County.

Tillamook Vision’s recent building renovations have transformed the space into a visually stunning, modern facility that enhances the patient experience. The upgrades incorporate innovative technology, creating a welcoming environment that improves access to eye care for the community. This transformation reflects the commitment to quality care and the positive impact on the well-being and vitality of Tillamook County.

Nominees for 2025 Program of the Year:

They offer access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and trauma-informed care, creating a safe and supportive environment for those in need. Their dedicated case management empowers participants to build stable, sustainable lives, making a lasting impact on our community.

Northwest Dance Academy’s Polar Express brings joy and a sense of community to local youth. Behind the scenes, an unwavering passion for dance and dedication shine through, making this event a truly invaluable part of our community. Together, the staff offers a diverse range of classes and programs throughout the year, providing children not only with the opportunity to learn dance but also with a strong sense of belonging from a young age.

The Tillamook High School Agriculture and FFA Program fosters leadership, agricultural education, and community development for students in grades 7-12. Through hands-on experience, essential skill-building, and job training, the program prepares students to contribute directly to local businesses and the broader economy. At the 2024 Tillamook County Fair, FFA members collectively earned over $100,000 in market animal sales, highlighting the program’s meaningful impact on both student achievement and community growth.

The Tillamook High School Drag Racing Club is a program that teaches young students responsibility, teamwork, and leadership. From maintaining their race car to securing sponsorships from local businesses, the participants take on real-world challenges while being required to keep their grades up. Each year, they host a community Cruise-In event, bringing car enthusiasts together to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

The Tillamook Nazarene Church Vacation Bible School is known for its engaging and uplifting summer program. This free annual event is open to children of all ages and warmly invites families from all backgrounds, offering a fun environment for learning and connection. The dedicated volunteers who bring this event to life each year are committed to making a positive impact on the community and spreading joy to all who attend.

Tillamook Tax-Aide, led by Linda Bade shows outstanding commitment to serving our community. Since 2014, the program has helped over 1,800 taxpayers maximize their credits and deductions through free, reliable tax preparation services. With IRS-certified volunteers who stay updated on the latest tax code changes, Tillamook Tax-Aide continues to make a significant impact year after year.

We are thrilled to introduce Meg Angier as our new Membership & Community Partnerships Manager here at the Tillamook Area Chamber of Commerce!

In this dynamic role, Meg will be at the heart of building connections, enhancing member engagement, and fostering partnerships throughout our vibrant community.

Let’s get to know Meg! We asked her a few questions to learn more about her:

1. What inspired you to join the Chamber, and what excites you most about this new role? “Working at the Chamber of Commerce has been a goal of mine since college where my favorite professor once told us that the best way to make a positive impact in your area is through the Chamber. Being a member of an organization that supports community growth and development and creates ways for businesses to thrive in Tillamook County is what I am most looking forward to. The Tillamook Chamber is our community living room that invites and encourages growth amongst its members, which is something I really look forward to supporting! I am also very excited to navigate ways to enhance the membership benefits program by working with local business owners.”

2. Can you share a bit about your background? (Maybe a fun fact! So, we can get to know you.) “I moved to Tillamook a little over 3 years ago and instantly felt at home. Between the county’s many adventure opportunities and the kind people who live here, there is so much to learn and explore! I really enjoy spending time at the Bay City Art’s Center and love to train and educate new gym friends at Silkwood Fitness. I also have a passion for outdoor education and enjoy learning about the many tree species native to the Oregon Coast!

If there are new folks moving here, or maybe you know someone who doesn’t feel they have found their “spot” here, I would love to help them find their community – there really is something here for everyone:) ”

3. What are your top priorities for supporting local businesses? “Supporting the dreams of local business owners is my top priority and learning more about why and how they began their business, and where they would like to see it grow in the future is something I look forward to working with them on. I am also looking forward to meeting and partnering with local business owners to create opportunities for networking through Chamber After Hours events.”
