SUMMARY:Traditional Ecological Knowledge on the Oregon Coast  part of   The Lifeways of the Tillamook Series  with Stephanie Craig
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 1st\, Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS is honored to host Stephanie Craig\, cultural practitioner and tradition-keeper\, basket weaver\, consultant\, educator\, and founder of Kalapuya Weaving and Consulting and Rooted Way. \nIn this deeply rooted and reflective presentation\, Stephainie will share the lifeways of the Tillamook people\, whose ancestral lands and waters include the Netarts area. \nThe presentation will illuminate the deep relationships between land\, culture\, and community resilience and explore traditional seasonal lifeways\, Indigenous food and medicine gathering\, the role of women in cultural practice\, and the lasting impacts of colonization on coastal Tribal communities. \nStephanie will also introduce Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) as a living system of care\, reciprocity\, and long-term environmental stewardship. Through examples from coastal habitats\, including tidal foodways\, prairie and wetland tending\, and fire ecology. Attendees will gain insight into how story\, ceremony\, and hands-on practice carry ecological knowledge forward. \nStephanie will discuss how weaving serves as both a cultural and ecological act of restoration\, and share her ongoing work through Rooted Ways\, a community initiative focused on reconnecting people and land through Indigenous leadership. \nThe program will include time for reflection\, audience Q&A\, and viewing of cultural items such as baskets\, plant materials\, and weaving displays \nThere is limited seating for this event; registration is required. Unfortunately\, walk-ins cannot be accommodated. \nThis is an in-person only event. DESCRIPTION: Discover the rich history of Netarts Bay with author John Andersen at a reading & signing of his book The Amazing People Between the Capes.\n\nJoin Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS and the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum\, Sunday\, August 10th for a special presentation celebrating the people and history of the Oregon Coast with local author and historian John Andersen. John will share stories from his newly released book\, The Amazing People Between the Capes – A History about the People of Cape Meares\, Netarts\, and Oceanside\, Oregon\, and foster a greater knowledge of the area’s diverse history.\n\nWith over two decades of work in community development and environmental education in the area\, John brings a personal and deeply informed perspective to the stories that define life between Cape Lookout and Cape Meares.\n\n“We are so excited to work with the Pioneer Museum to host John for this special event. John is a beloved former board member and our go-to historian. He has been working toward this goal for many years\, and we are happy to help him share this with the community”\, shares WEBS Director Chrissy Smith. Whether you’re a longtime local\, a new resident\, or simply interested in coastal Oregon history\, this event is a chance to connect with the rich heritage and remarkable individuals who have called this region home.\n\nThere will be a book signing after the talk.
