SUMMARY:Trail Building in Nehalem Bay With LNCT!
DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, volunteers gather on LNCT lands near Manzanita\, Nehalem and Wheeler to protect and restore habitat in the lower Nehalem watershed. We would love to see new faces out on the land!\n\n\n\nThese work parties are beginner friendly and an opportunity to learn about the engineering of hiking trails. We will be working on uneven ground\, bending\, and moving small rocks and brush during this process. Tools and gloves are provided\, new volunteers welcome and no prior experience needed. Join as frequently as you please.  Email shane@nehalemtrust.org for weekly updates on where to meet.\n\nAlder Creek Farm and Natural Area’s Nehalem Teaching Trail already supports an impressive variety of native plants and simulated ecosystems for community learning—but we’re looking to grow. This short trail will extend educational access into a different ecosystem and connect to the Natural Area’s pollinator meadow. We hope it will also add some variety to habitat access for bird watchers who visit the farm as a part of the Oregon Coast Birding Trail.

SUMMARY:Guided Plant Walk: Explore Native Coastal Prairie with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Plant Experts
DESCRIPTION:Cloverdale\, Ore. — Join the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on a guided plant walk at Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday\, July 25. Beginning at 11 a.m.\, visitors will join one of the refuge’s biological technicians for a guided walk through the refuge’s coastal prairie. Visitors should meet in the upper parking lot by the Two Rivers Trailhead. Participants will learn how to identify native flowers and other plants\, explore their role in supporting wildlife\, and hear how refuge staff manage invasive species. The walk will be approximately one mile and includes some steep hills and uneven terrain. Participants should wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes\, dress for sunny weather\, and bring water. Visitors are also encouraged to stop by an informational table hosted by a refuge park ranger from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn more about the refuge\, wildlife\, birding opportunities and more. The event is free and open to all ages. For more information\, contact Jessica Ramirez at jessica_ramirez@fws.gov. \nNestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge protects a diverse mosaic of coastal prairie\, forest\, estuary\, and wetland habitats that provide essential homes for native birds\, mammals\, pollinators and countless other species. The refuge is also home to one of Oregon’s reintroduced populations of the federally threatened Oregon silverspot butterfly. The butterfly depends on healthy coastal prairie habitat and the native early blue violet\, its sole larval host plant\, for survival. This guided walk offers an opportunity to explore the refuge while learning how native plants play a vital role in conserving wildlife and preserving Oregon’s unique coastal landscapes.

SUMMARY:Explore Netarts Bay
DESCRIPTION:EXPLORE NETARTS BAY \nJoin the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS July 17th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to explore the diverse plants and animals that call Netarts Bay home with guest scientists Dr. Allie Tissot\, Kim Brown\, and Katalin Plummer. In addition to their ecological expertise\, our program leaders also speak Spanish\, so we are excited to offer this exploration as a bilingual program! \nIf you’ve enjoyed WEBS’ Tidepool Tours\, you won’t want to miss this. While we’ll be exploring the mudflats of the bay instead of the tidepools\, this program will feature a similar blend of expert-led learning and space to follow your own curiosity. We’re excited to nerd out with you! \nNOTE: Please arrive 15 minutes early to find parking and check in! \nRegistration is required for this free event. Learn more and register at: https://www.netartsbaywebs.org/events  \nThis popular event fills up quickly! If the event is full\, please add your name to the waitlist so we can reach out if spots become available.  \nWhat to bring: Be sure to wear shoes that are securely attached to your feet\, flip flops will not be allowed. We recommend tall\, waterproof boots. The climate can change quickly along the coast\, ranging from warm to cool and breezy\, so please bring the gear you need to stay comfortable. \nDifficulty: Moderate due to the challenges of walking over rocks to reach the bay\, and walking on soft\, wet sand throughout the program. If bad weather develops\, an alternate plan will be communicated to the registered participants. \nParking: There is a small parking lot at our meeting location\, as well as pull-offs along Netarts Bay Road for additional parking.  \nConnect with the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS online!
