SUMMARY:Salmonberry Trail Work Party - Grading Gravel
DESCRIPTION:We need to re grade the gravel on the Wheeler Demonstration Trail! We need about 10 volunteers to help shovel and rake gravel so it is graded to ADA standards. \nWe will meet behind the railroad tracks on Marine Dr and Hemlock St (west side of Hwy 101) in Wheeler at 10AM. Bring a snack and water for yourself\, we will get lunch from the NeahKahNie Smoke House or Handy Creek bakery in Wheeler when we wrap up at 1PM. \nWe will have some tools\, but if you have your own rake\, shovel\, and work gloves\, bring them along! If you are coming from the Portland Metro area\, let us know if you need to carpool with someone and will help arrange a ride!

DESCRIPTION:The confluence of the Salmonberry and Nehalem Rivers is an incredibly special place–we are excited to show you this portion of the future Salmonberry Trail! \nWe will hike along the Salmonberry River to the first major landslide (roughly a mile in). We will get a first hand picture of the major challenges this trail presents itself while enjoying the wildlife of spring! \nWhat to wear and bring: Please dress for the weather (rain jacket) and wear hiking boots (it might be slick in some spots so rain boots are not recommended). Bring a snack and plenty of water for yourself. \nThere’s no formal address and no cell coverage in the area\, so here’s the most reliable description: \nMeet at the North end of the Foss Road bridge over the Salmonberry River \nLandmarks: 15.2 miles east of Mohler\, 13 miles south of Elsie Nearest known point: Morrison Eddy Campground (the hike parking area is 1.3 miles south on Foss Road) \nCoordinates: 45°44’60.0”N\, 123°39’08.9”W \nMap link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TrfHCtE91yVFGeQZA \nWe want everyone to get into the canyon—and out—smoothly. \nHow to Get There (Read This Part)\nComing from the Portland area:\n– Head west toward Elsie\n– If you reach the restaurant in Elsie\, you’ve gone too far\n– Turn onto Lower Nehalem Road and stay on it all the way to the destination \nComing from Wheeler / Coast side:\n– Take Highway 53 to Miami-Foley Road\n– Follow Miami-Foley to Foss Road\n– Stay on Foss Road to the bridge
