SUMMARY:Netarts Bay Salt Marsh Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of Netarts Bay – Watershed\, Estuary\, Beach\, and Sea (WEBS) on August 5th for a FREE event including a presentation and guided tour along the salt marsh at the southern end of Netarts Bay.  \nWhile exploring in this unique habitat\, participants can learn about the plants and animals\, and the importance of this environment from the forest to the water’s edge. Discover how plants survive in a salty world and explore vegetation succession from the bay to the dunes. \nThis program includes two parts: Starting with an indoor presentation at 9:00 a.m.\, we will review salt marsh habitats and give an overview of the common plants found in these areas and how they are adapted to survive in these salty locations. After the presentation\, participants will drive to the first location for the start of a walking tour with biologist and past WEBS board member\, Jim Young. This field-based walking tour includes an easy to moderate 1.5 to 3-mile hike through muddy\, wet sand\, and loose sand areas. Trails may be covered by brush. This program is best suited for participants 12 years and older who are comfortable walking in these environments. \nHOW TO PREPARE/WHAT TO BRING TO THE WALK \n\nParticipants will need to provide their own transportation between locations\nBring or expect to purchase a OR State Parks parking pass ($10)\nLong pants and closed-toe shoes or boots (no flip-flops) — expect muddy conditions\nWeather-appropriate clothing (prepare for variable coastal weather)\nInsect repellent or protective clothing – mosquitoes may be present (WEBS will have a limited supply of mosquito nets available)\n\nWe understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently\, and we strive to support everyone who is interested in attending our events! Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your accessibility needs. \nThis event is part of the Explore Nature series of hikes\, walks\, paddles\, and outdoor adventures. SUMMARY:Plein Air Painting at Cape Meares National Scenic Viewpoint Presented by Friends of Netarts Bay – Watershed\, Estuary\, Beach and Sea (WEBS)
DESCRIPTION:WEBS is thrilled to present a creative afternoon of open-air painting with Washington-based artist Anna Norris. Join us at the stunning Cape Meares National Scenic Viewpoint and Lighthouse on Monday\, August 25th\, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. “Take advantage of the golden hour light and the sweeping ocean views—this is a perfect opportunity to practice your technique\, meet fellow artists\, and enjoy a relaxing\, creative evening by the sea”\, shared WEBS Director Chrissy Smith. \nWe are delighted to have Anna come and share her artistic perspectives on some of the Oregon Coast’s most dramatic landscapes.”I’ve always been interested in art. I was a non-stop doodler in grade school\, then on to pen and ink drawing. In college I was introduced to acrylic and oil paint and that was a game changer”\, shared Anna. She went on to say “the focus of my art is interplay of light\, shadow\, and shapes and my hope is that you can step into the piece and lose yourself”. Bring your inspiration and your supplies for this Plein Air event where artists of all experience levels can capture the dramatic coastal beauty of Oregon’s iconic landscape. \nAll participants are responsible for bringing their own art supplies. \nWhat to Bring: \n\neasels \n\n\ncanvases \n\n\nbrushes \n\n\npaints\n\n\nwater \n\n\nseating \n\nIt is recommended participants come fully prepared with everything they need to work comfortably outdoors. As a welcoming introduction\, Anna suggests that beginners bring a simple drawing pad and colored pencils to enjoy the experience without pressure. \nNote: There is no formal instruction provided\, but the setting and community will provide all the inspiration you need!
