SUMMARY:Trail Building in Nehalem Bay With LNCT!
DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, volunteers gather on LNCT lands near Manzanita\, Nehalem and Wheeler to protect and restore habitat in the lower Nehalem watershed. We would love to see new faces out on the land!\n\n\n\nThese work parties are beginner friendly and an opportunity to learn about the engineering of hiking trails. We will be working on uneven ground\, bending\, and moving small rocks and brush during this process. Tools and gloves are provided\, new volunteers welcome and no prior experience needed. Join as frequently as you please.  Email shane@nehalemtrust.org for weekly updates on where to meet.\n\nAlder Creek Farm and Natural Area’s Nehalem Teaching Trail already supports an impressive variety of native plants and simulated ecosystems for community learning—but we’re looking to grow. This short trail will extend educational access into a different ecosystem and connect to the Natural Area’s pollinator meadow. We hope it will also add some variety to habitat access for bird watchers who visit the farm as a part of the Oregon Coast Birding Trail.

SUMMARY:CAC Citizens Advisory Committee Quarterly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:🗣️ What a CAC Meeting Is \nA CAC (Citizen Advisory Committee) is a local community group made up of residents\, property owners\, and business owners who gather to discuss issues affecting the Pacific City-Woods area. These committees are part of Tillamook County’s citizen involvement program under Oregon’s land-use planning requirements. Their purpose is to provide a public forum where community members can learn about\, discuss\, and offer input on local planning and policy matters that affect the area. \n🪑 Typical Activities at a CAC Meeting \nDuring a meeting at the Kiawanda Community Center\, participants generally: \nHear presentations or updates from county staff or community members on local issues (e.g.\, land use\, development proposals\, transportation or environmental topics). \nDiscuss community concerns and priorities related to planning\, development\, services\, or community character. \nProvide feedback and recommendations that the committee will relay to the Tillamook County Board of Commissioners\, Planning Commission\, or other local bodies. \nEngage in dialogue with neighbors and officials to help inform decisions and improve communication between the community and local government.

SUMMARY:Thirty Years Later: The Devastating Floods of 1996
DESCRIPTION:In January of 1996\, there was a prolonged cold spell\, with snow piling up in the mountains. Then came warm\, monsoon-like rain. Torrents of water rushed down the overloaded river systems\, eroding stream banks and blowing out many side canyons. The raging water downed trees and sent old logs surging down from the mountains. Towns throughout the county were severely flooded. Dairy farms lost their herds. Businesses and homes were underwater. Join Nehalem Valley Historical Society to hear the stories of heartbreak and destruction\, but also of the community coming together to help those in need.  Come Share Your Stories!

SUMMARY:Let's Get Ready to Rock and Roll - Inspiration and Preparedness for Tillamook County
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Meares Emergency Volunteer Corps (CMEVC) and the newly formed Tillamook Emergency Volunteer Corps (TEVC) are gearing up for an energizing and educational morning as the Let’s Get Ready to Rock and Roll event arrives at the Tillamook County Library on February 21\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. County officials and representatives of CMEVC and TEVC will be available for questions during the Q & A session. CMEVC is the emergency preparedness arm of the Cape Meares Community Association (CMCA). \nFor those unable to attend in person\, send an email to capemearesca@gmail.com to request a ZOOM link and how to participate in the interactive events. Admission is FREE. Enter for a chance to win a “go-bag” ($125 value) filled with supplies that will help you survive the first 72 hours of emergencies like extended power outages and the long-anticipated 9.0 Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake. \nThe featured speaker\, Steve Eberlein\, will share his remarkable firsthand account of surviving the 9.1 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami (2004) while working for the Red Cross. His experience offers a powerful perspective on resilience\, preparedness\, and the strength people discover in moments of crisis. A native Oregonian\, Steve has delivered 200+ earthquake preparedness presentations\, including his 2018 TEDx presentation in Portland\, Oregon. Steve is the Resilience and Engagement Manager for Ethos Preparedness. \nSponsored by Governor Kotek’s Plan for a Resilient Oregon (PRO)\, CMEVC\, TEVC\, and the Tillamook County Library\, the program promises a blend of storytelling\, interactive events\, and community connection. CMCA is one of two nonprofits in Tillamook County and one of 53 community-based organizations whose work directly informs the Governor’s plan. The PRO will guide the development of her 2027-2029 budget and legislative funding in 2027 and beyond. TEVC focuses on emergency preparedness in the City of Tillamook and collaborates with CMEVC and other communities across Tillamook County through their membership in Tillamook County Civilian Corps Council (TC4)\, a grassroots council of communities\, agencies\, and organizations throughout Tillamook County.

SUMMARY:Eelgrass: Ecology\, Research\, and Local Updates
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS is kicking off 2026 with a three-part event series\, “Producers of\nthe Bay!” Our first event of the series shines a spotlight on eelgrass\, a flowering marine plant\nthat acts as a nursery for the young fish and invertebrates that form the foundation of our local\nfood web.\nNetarts Bay stands out as one of the few bays in Oregon that still has healthy native eelgrass\nbeds. Eelgrass is impacted by a variety of human activities including boating\, dredging\,\nrecreational shellfish harvest\, some aquaculture harvesting techniques\, the introduction of\ninvasive species\, and nutrient runoff from land. Eelgrass responses to\, and recovery from\, these\nactivities vary widely\, highlighting the importance of local\, science-based approaches to\nsustaining ecosystem health while supporting the important industries and communities that\ndepend on a thriving bay. So how are scientists working to sustain this vital species throughout\nthe coast\, and how can we protect the healthy beds in Netarts?\nJoin us on Zoom to hear from Dr. Tony D’Andrea\, Project Director of ODFW’s Shellfish &\nEstuarine Assessment of Coastal Oregon (SEACOR). He’ll share insights from his work\nmonitoring local eelgrass health\, including recent surveys in neighboring Tillamook Bay.\nTune in on February 25th\, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM\, to learn the latest on local eelgrass and stick\naround for a live Q&A at the end of the presentation. We’d love to see you there!\nVisit https://www.netartsbaywebs.org/events to learn more and register. The Zoom link will be\nshared after registration.\nQuestions or Cancellations? Contact info@netartsbaywebs.org\nConnect with the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS online!\nWebsite: www.netartsbaywebs.org\nSocial: @netartsbaywebs\nEmail: info@netartsbaywebs.org\nRead more about SEACOR: https://www.dfw.state.or.us/mrp/shellfish/Seacor/\nContact the SEACOR project via e-mail at: ODFW.SEACOR@odfw.oregon.gov
