DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 1st\, Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS is honored to host Stephanie Craig\, cultural practitioner and tradition-keeper\, basket weaver\, consultant\, educator\, and founder of Kalapuya Weaving and Consulting and Rooted Way. \nIn this deeply rooted and reflective presentation\, Stephainie will share the lifeways of the Tillamook people\, whose ancestral lands and waters include the Netarts area. \nThe presentation will illuminate the deep relationships between land\, culture\, and community resilience and explore traditional seasonal lifeways\, Indigenous food and medicine gathering\, the role of women in cultural practice\, and the lasting impacts of colonization on coastal Tribal communities. \nStephanie will also introduce Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) as a living system of care\, reciprocity\, and long-term environmental stewardship. Through examples from coastal habitats\, including tidal foodways\, prairie and wetland tending\, and fire ecology. Attendees will gain insight into how story\, ceremony\, and hands-on practice carry ecological knowledge forward. \nStephanie will discuss how weaving serves as both a cultural and ecological act of restoration\, and share her ongoing work through Rooted Ways\, a community initiative focused on reconnecting people and land through Indigenous leadership. \nThe program will include time for reflection\, audience Q&A\, and viewing of cultural items such as baskets\, plant materials\, and weaving displays \nThere is limited seating for this event; registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, volunteers gather on LNCT lands near Manzanita\, Nehalem and Wheeler to protect and restore habitat in the lower Nehalem watershed. We would love to see new faces out on the land!\n\n\n\nThese work parties are beginner friendly and an opportunity to learn about the engineering of hiking trails. We will be working on uneven ground\, bending\, and moving small rocks and brush during this process. Tools and gloves are provided\, new volunteers welcome and no prior experience needed. Join as frequently as you please.  Email shane@nehalemtrust.org for weekly updates on where to meet.\n\nAlder Creek Farm and Natural Area’s Nehalem Teaching Trail already supports an impressive variety of native plants and simulated ecosystems for community learning—but we’re looking to grow. This short trail will extend educational access into a different ecosystem and connect to the Natural Area’s pollinator meadow. We hope it will also add some variety to habitat access for bird watchers who visit the farm as a part of the Oregon Coast Birding Trail.
