DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for Saturday\, June 7th for a chance to win $1\,000! \nScheduled to coincide with Free Fishing Weekend\, the Crab Derby is a fundraising event for two local charities – the MuddNick Foundation of Manzanita\, OR –  and North Tillamook County and Animal Haven By The Sea Rescue in Nehalem\, OR. Hosted by Kelly’s Brighton Marina\, this unique event is one of the favorite summer activites for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike! \nKelly’s Brighton Marina will release 26 tagged crabs on Saturday at 9am and a $10 per ticket entry fee is required to participate in the Crab Derby\, with proceeds from ticket sales going to the sponsored charities. All captured tagged crabs must be returned to the marina by 5:00pm and a drawing will be held to determine the top prize of $1\,000 cash. DESCRIPTION:SUSTAINABLE CLAMMING ON THE BAY  \nSpace is limited. A shellfish license is required. \nCalling all bay admirers and clam lovers! Would you like to learn more about the different types of clams in Netarts Bay?  Are you new to clamming and looking for some tips? Do you love to clam but rather not go alone? \nJoin Friends of Netarts Bay\, Estuary\, Beach and Sea – WEBS\, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Saturday\, May 31st for an informative day on the bay\, learning about sustainable shellfish harvesting. “Not only will participants gain insights into sustainable clamming practices\, they will also learn more about ODFW’s research on bay clam populations and estuarine habitat studies” shares WEBS Stewardship Coordinator Marina Dreeben. In addition to discussing current research\, participants will discuss the role of shellfish in bay health\, the types of clams in the bay\, and the best\, most sustainable methods for harvesting wild shellfish. Both new and experienced clammers will have a chance to learn alongside ODFW and WEBS staff/volunteers. Clammers can count on gaining knowledge and collecting their limit with a fun group of community members. \nThis popular WEBS event fills up quickly but we do have last minute cancellations so feel free to sign up and add your name to the waitlist in case spots become available\, or email info@netartsbaywebs.org to volunteer as a photographer\, on-shore support\, or clamming expert!
